Pedigree Dolls
The 1960s was the "Sindy" era for Pedigree. In 1963, television commercials and special delivery trucks advertised the arrival of "Sindy" all across the United Kingdom. The doll was 11" tall, had a twist waist, and posable arms and legs -- she even came with her own theme song on a vinyl 45 RPM record! "Sindy" doll stands, outfits, separates, and accessories were all available for purchase, along with her companion dolls:
- Best friend Poppet, introduced in 1964, also 11" tall
- Boyfriend Paul, introduced in 1965, 12" tall, and named after Paul McCartney -- early versions had molded hair, later versions, soft hair in the mop-top Beatle style
- Little sister Patch, introduced in 1966, 9" tall
Miniature versions of Sindy, Paul, and Patch, several inches shorter, were produced by Pedigree Dolls in the early 1970s in Hong Kong.
In the mid-60s, Pedigree Dolls also produced several action figures intended for boys, including characters from Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds TV series, and "Tommy Gunn", a British version of the American G.I. Joe. In 1985, Pedigree Dolls released a line of dolls patterned after characters in Fraggle Rock, a popular American puppet show of the time -- from that line, the three types of Doozers, miniature vinyl figures with twistable necks and arms, are very rare collectibles.
